Basic Pizza
Ingredients:
For the dough
- 225g white flour (plus extra for dusting)
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp easy-blend yeast
- 150ml warm water
- 1 tbsp light olive oil
For the topping
- tomato sauce
- 100g soft mozzarella cheese (ball type)
- 2 medium tomatoes (thinly), sliced
- 2 tbsp Parmesan (or mature cheddar cheese), grated
- any other things you may want to add like pineapple, ham, olives, etc
Instructions:
For the dough
- Sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl and stir in the yeast
- Make a well in the centre and pour in half the water and the oil
Mix and add more of the water as necessary, until you have a soft dough - Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until the dough looks and feels smooth and elastic
- Cover and leave for an hour by which time it should have doubled in size
- Meanwhile, make the tomato sauce and set aside to cool
- Preheat oven 220’C
- When the dough is ready, roll it out to around to the desired shape, the traditional circule or you could make it square or even make small pizzas.
- Spread the tomato sauce over it, leaving 2cm round the edges
For the topping
- Arrange the sliced mozzarella on top followed by the tomato slices and grated parmesan
- Add any other toppings you like, followed by a last sprinkling of grated cheese
- Cook in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the topping is bubbling and golden and the edges of the base are nicely brown
