Coconut milk and Coconut flour
It’s really easy and cheap to make coconut milk at home with coconut flakes and has a bonus you will also get coconut flour. Just use 1 part of shredded coconut to 2 parts of water.
INGREDIENTS:
- 170 gr (3/4 pint) of shredded desiccated coconut
- 1 + 1/2 pint of water
- cheese cloth or a nut milk bag
INSTRUCTIONS:
- soak the coconut in the water for 2 hours, you can do this in the blender jar because you will be blending it in the next step.
- blend the mixture in the blender for 3 minutes
- pour the mixture into the cheese cloth and strain into a bowl. The liquid you are straining is the coconut milk, reserve the coconut fibre in the cloth it will be used later to make coconut flour.
- store the coconut milk in the fridge
- take the coconut fibre out of the cheese cloth and spread it over a baking tray.
- bake in low heat or leave in the over for 24 hours until it dries.
- grind in a coffee grinder or a food processor until you get a flour consistency as fine as possible. Don’t worry if it’s not completely powdery, it should still work in recipes that use coconut flour.
